Heh, I'm in the same boat you are. First (knocks on wood) Valentine's Day that I'll be with someone. (First for her as well, interestingly enough).

I'm planning the dinner in secret, since it's pretty much figured that we're going to at least get dinner together. My GF volunteered to plan the rest of the night :pimp; so I just need to pick up some flowers and I'm set.

I'd go with the surprise and take her to dinner at a nice restaurant + flowers. Maybe rent/go see a good chick flick after dinner. Can't go wrong with that.

I've done the dinner thing with my wife the last couple years but this year I'm surprising her by taking her on a little gondola cruise in the bay at sunset. Just hoping that the weather doesn't screw it up....

Ya... secret is the way to go. Just tell her to free up the day and what to dress and take care of the rest.

Vday is t3h suck. Do something nice, fun, and inexpensive, and then do something a week later all elaborate instead. :)

I'll agree with you there. It does suck because youre expected to do something big for that day. It takes all the suprise out of it. That advice you gave here is great. A little bit of suprise goes a long way...

My husband and I have never made a big deal out of Valentine's day. But if you're going to do something....then surprise her. Girls like surprises:)

Unfortunately the only Valentine's day that sticks out in my mind, is Feb. 14th, 1989. My boyfriend at the time, dumped me! :clueless; Could'nt just wait until the day after...no! Dumped on the supposed most romantic day of the year!! :P

Anyway, I'm over it now! No, really I am...I'm fine :blink; :((

What a crock of POS day created by the commercial industry.

If it was up to me, everyday should be Valentine's day, you don't need that one day to be special to someone you love.

Oh, the question, you should make it semi-secret. ie just make sure she's free instead of doing something else without you. Spring :P the suprise on her at the end.

As a follow-up, in my own situation, the extent of things I'm doing for V-day this year is taking her to a nice restaurant. She picked the time (since I wasn't sure if she was planning anything), but doesn't know what restaurant.

No plans to pick up flowers tho'. She's already made it clear that she'd be mad at me if I buy her anything for the day, since she acknowledges it's a Hallmark Holiday. 'course, as per my other thread, I already did pick up something for her (heart pendant), though I may just hold off a bit on giving it to her.

I still think it'd be romantic to give her the heart pendant (Amazon gold box?), but proceed when you're ready. :)

Thanks. I'm probably 50/50 as to whether I'll give it to her on V-day. My sister approved of it though (it's a lot smaller than the pic makes it appear to be, which is a good thing, since it's not as flashy then).

So my 6 month anniversary is a week before Vday. Should I do something big to celebrate both at the same time or should I do 2 different things? :clueless;
